THE SANTA FE MURALS

los murales de santa fe

(1996 - 2007)

“Painting is a form of freedom.” -Raciel Luis Esperanza

The Santa Fe Murals are a series of large-scale oil paintings painted in Santa Fe, NM between 1996 - 2007. Esperanza’s colorful and fantastic paintings are vibrant windows, portals into other realities. Unmounted and unframed, the paintings, not unlike a magic tapestry or scroll, can be rolled up, tucked away, easily transported. When hung, the canvases take on an muralistic almost otherworldly quality. Like the mural itself is escaping from the walls, inviting us in.

“My art is the acceptance of myself without restrictions and with no influence. It’s how I navigate the world - I paint and draw my surroundings. We have different understandings of reality, but due to shared information we find common ground. What I draw and paint is a reflection of my reality.”

-Raciel Luis Esperanza
